OVERVIEW

This novel study provides teachers with a highly structured format for teaching language arts as students develop a love for reading longer materials like novels. Various areas such as reading comprehension, vocabulary development, spelling, grammar and writing are all entwined in this integrated approach. Activities are divided into three main sections:
1)  Chapter Questions

For each chapter grouping there are a number of thought-provoking questions. These are presented in a variety of formats, including true & false, multiple choice, short answer and complete sentence answer. Reading comprehension is key as students must read and understand the entire passage in order to answer the questions.

2)  Language & Vocabulary

Each chapter contains a number of activities dealing with skills such as sentence structure, nouns, alphabetizing, similes, idioms, adjectives, verbs, phrases, verb forms, spelling, adverbs, puns, contractions, punctuation, preposition, spelling and suffixes.

3)  Writing and Creativity

This section gives students the opportunity to apply what they have learned and to use their creativity and imagination to complete activities. Activities such as unscrambling, using clues to solve a puzzle, word puzzles and creative writing will generate student enthusiasm for writing and creative thinking.

Story Summary

Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang is about a young boy who strives to be heard. He is nicknamed “Two-Two” because he has to say things twice to be heard.

One day, Jacob decided to try buying groceries for his parents. He is misunderstood by the grocer, who thinks Jacob insulted him, and as a result finds himself in court, sentenced to two years, two months, two weeks, two hours and two minutes in the Children’s Prison hundreds of miles away from civilization. It is a dark, dirty, dungeon-like place where children work and are kept in cells.

Only two plus two plus two years old and a prisoner, Jacob’s future seems bleak indeed. But though he is young and small he is far from helpless, and when the Infamous Two come to his aid, Child Power triumphs.

Jacob Two-Two’s ordeal and rescue is the substance and delight of this marvelously funny story.
