Junior readers will enjoy this lively story of a young girl's battle with tuberculosis and her adjustment to a new life with relatives in rural Ontario. Set in 1925, the language and lifestyles of the time are brought to life by author Bernice Thurman Hunter. This unit contains activities to develop skills in: research, comprehension, creativity, vocabulary development, and writing. Teachers may wish to familiarize students with the time period of the book in some of the ways suggested in this study.
