About Canadian Urban and Rural Communities:
Our five-part unit focuses on different communities throughout Canada, as children learn about the similarities between urban and rural communities. The resource begins with a set of lesson plans for the teacher. Details are provided for the activities that the children participate in during each lesson. Then, a student booklet in which children record their findings and research is provided. The resource ends with activities that are used during the lessons of the unit, including a jot note outline, a report outline, and a bibliography outline.
About Communities: Past, Preset, Future:
Our unit focuses on the lives of the pioneers, on the children's present day community, and what the community will look like in the future. The resource begins with a set of lesson plans for the teacher. Details are provided for the activities that the children participate in during each lesson. Then, a student booklet in which children record their research findings and the conclusions they draw from the information they collect is provided. The student booklets are the children's notebooks and are used to help them prepare for the unit test. The resource ends with a number of activities used throughout the lessons of the unit.
About Communities Around the World:
Students delight as they explore the rich diversity of communities from all over the world. Throughout the unit, students learn about the concepts of custom and tradition of people in their own community and of people throughout the world. Students learn different games played by children throughout the world. Students also learn about different celebrations, traditional foods, and dishes from around the world. Activities included are vocabulary match game, writing jot notes into paragraphs, and a short report. The perfect complement to the "Canadian Urban and Rural Communities", and "Communities: Past, Present & Future" units.
About Multicultural Canada:
A city consists of many communities and of many cultures. The students will recognize that Canada's cities are multicultural and that the First Nations were in Canada long before European settlement. Contents include: List of Resources, Student Objectives, Multicultural Faces of A City, Making The Big Book, Story Patterns, Read The Story, Joseph of Ukraine, Preparing The Flannelboard, Telling The Story, Story and Flannelboard Patterns, and Additional Reading. Students will realize that Canada is multicultural, that some people who live in Canada came from other countries, that people of the First Nations lived here long before us, will listen to a story, will participate in a class discussion, and will locate different countries on a map or globe.
This Social Studies and Canada set provides a teacher and student section with a variety of lessons, activities, crossword, word search, big book pattern, flannelboard story, and answer key to create a well-rounded lesson plan.
